General gardening information
Everything on Scented Garden is general information for your own use. Gardens differ in climate, soil, light and exposure, so a plant that grows well for us may behave differently for you. Our timings come from a Central European garden; shift them to your own first and last frost. We cannot guarantee a result in your garden.
Not medical or veterinary advice
We write about plants for their scent, for cooking and for the pleasure of growing them. Nothing on this site is medical, health or veterinary advice, and nothing here is meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. When we describe a scent as calming or soothing, we are describing how many people experience it, not promising an effect on your health.
This site does not give advice on essential oils.
Plant safety
Some garden plants are harmful to people or animals if eaten, and some irritate the skin. We note known risks in our plant guides and name the source, but our notes are not a complete list.
- If children use your garden, check the Royal Horticultural Society’s list of potentially harmful garden plants.
- If you have pets, check the ASPCA’s list of toxic and non-toxic plants.
- If you have allergies or sensitive skin, wear gloves and test a new plant with care.
- If you think a person or an animal has eaten something harmful, contact a doctor, a vet or your local poison centre straight away.
Eating what you grow
Where we mention using a plant in the kitchen, we mean established culinary plants only. Eat a plant only if you are certain what it is and know it has not been treated with anything unsuitable for food crops.
Printables and downloads
Our printables are planning and record-keeping tools. They help you decide and keep track; they do not guarantee how your plants will grow.
Affiliate links and advertising
Scented Garden currently contains no affiliate links and no paid placements. If that changes, we will say so at the top of any article that contains them and update this page.

We link to other websites when they are useful sources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.
Errors and corrections
We check what we publish, and we still get things wrong sometimes. If you spot a mistake, write to hello@scentedgarden.eu and we will correct it.
